Project Situation at the Beginning

An international IT solutions provider was tasked with switching internet service providers across more than 1,000 locations in 60+ countries.

For the publicly listed parent company, flawless execution was essential. But when we entered the project, the situation was far from ideal:

  • Project goals were only vaguely defined

  • Conflicting timelines circulated

  • There was no structured project organization or planning in place

Our mission: Set up the project – from clear goals and project governance to methodology and rollout planning.

Our Contribution

We worked closely with the project lead to establish a Project Management Office (PMO) and staffed it with experienced, culturally aware project management experts.

Within days, the PMO team developed a detailed concept to guide the following project phases:

  1. Goal definition
  2. Concept development
  3. Planning
  4. Execution
  5. Project closure

Key deliverables included:

  • A focused, structured goal-setting process, crucial given the global scale and multiple stakeholders

  • Implementation of clear project governance – assertive without being prescriptive

  • Special attention to cultural diversity and team dynamics across continents

  • Regular Lessons Learned sessions to build trust and improve collaboration

These foundations enabled team cohesion and clarity across time zones and languages – a critical success factor in this type of rollout.

  • The project structure was in place within weeks: goals, concept, and planning were complete

  • Execution proceeded smoothly thanks to the robust setup

  • A clear, goal-oriented meeting structure was introduced and effectively moderated
